Quiet Day

I am taking time this morning to appreciate my quiet house.  Time alone to read, knit or just sit has become an important part of my day.  I spent many years busy working and parenting; years where time to sit and enjoy some quiet didn't happen until late at night.

My "work" right now is a combination of many things.  Babysitting aunt to a sweet, busy boy who is almost three, owning a small yarn shop, shopping and preparing meals, cleaning and laundry.  Recently I coordinated a "small backyard wedding" for my daughter Abby.  All "labors of
love," things I enjoy and take pride in.

Today I am enjoying a Quiet Day.  I did not set my alarm.  My husband, John brought me a mug of tea as he left for work.  I sat in bed with my tea and knitting and watched Good Morning America and Live with Kelly and Michael.  I ignored the laundry, dishes and cleaning for nearly two hours.  I finished a shawl, turned the heel on a sock and rested!

I did eventually make my bed, start some laundry, unload the dishwasher and make lunch for John.  A good productive morning.

This afternoon I plan to buy groceries but first an hour or two wandering thru Greybeards, a local antique emporeum.

Fresh Start

In 2 days I will celebrate my birthday.  I will be 54.  It is not a big milestone birthday.  Getting older does not bother me. I often say "it is just a number."  54.  The number does have some significance.  As a former third grade teacher I know that 6 times 9 is 54, not to be confuse with 7 times 8 is 56.

I am hoping for a quiet day on Saturday.  I will be working (if it can be called working) at my yarn shop.  Friends will stop in to sit and knit, a few will need help with a project.  I will have time to sit and knit.  My mother-in-law is taking me to dinner ( my husband, too).   Other family members will call or text, some have delivered or mailed gifts.

I am starting this blog to help me focus on all the good things in my life.  I hope to write about the simple every day joys and pleasures of this Grand Life!
