Sweet Busy Boy

Riley has been home with Mama and Daddy this week while his Great Grammy visits.  I think
we were both ready to get back into our routine!
He pulled out some sponges while I unloaded the dishwasher.  "Wow, Lala these are amazing!  I am going to have a collection because I am a collector."
"See LaLa it's a collection.  Leave them right there."
He was off to the den,  poking a stick through the hole of a train track.   Yes, Mom, he is playing with a stick and he didn't poke his eyes out.
The animals at the zoo needed to to be settled for their naps.  He says, "night, night, sleep tight, don't let the bugs bite."  Yes, the words my mom said to me many many years ago!!  Does Mama say that?  Too cute.

This is all before my breakfast.  We followed John to drop off the van for inspection and returned him to the foundry before 9 am.

Breakfast number two for Riley.  Greek Yogurt and blueberries.
He needed a napkin to wipe his face."a blue one cause blue is my favorite color" he tells me.
We head upstairs.  He puts the laundry down the chute.  Photos are blurry because he wouldn't stop and pose. "No, LaLa.  I need to do my work."
Time to put buttons on some bunny sweaters!!!

Intense concentration to work on his knitting
My Maggie Bunny and Riley's Peter Bunny!  Aren't they sweet?  Peter is wearing pants made from an old pair of John's jeans.

Hoping to have some knitting time while Riley is busy!

Happy Feet

Not an original title .  Sorry.  Today I am happy for my feet.  These over 50 feet that still take me where I want to go.   I would like to say we went for a run, my feet and I; however the "run" part lasted about half a block.  It was a very long block.  I did take a brisk walk up and down some steep hills and worked up a good sweat.
Recently finished these lovely socks to put on my happy feet.  I started these years ago (3?   4??).  Long ago.  Also finished some little boy socks.
Christmas gift?  Fun colors!!
My happy feet are heading off to hang some laundry on the clothesline, visit my sweet Mom and buy some groceries!

Finding my happy

I haven't posted this week because I have been feeling down, sad, frustrated, etc.  i don't like to feel this way.  Nearly 20 years ago co-workers teased me about being "Miss Merry Sunshine".  This was often said in a snarky tone.  At the time I was a single mom, working 2 jobs, going through a tough divorce.  My mom calls it "putting on your happy face."  This week it has been hard to "put on my happy face."

My family is going through some tough stuff right now.  Some of them will not be happy if I discuss all of it here, so I won't.    I write this mostly for my mom, but I think some of my "girls" (daughters, sister, girlfriends) may read it too.   I have said many times recently, "it doesn't help to dwell on the sad, unfair, nasty things; let's try to remember the good things.  I need to do a better job of following my own advice.

One of my girls frequently sends me photos that always make me smile or laugh.  (photos of a sweet boy or food mostly.). THANK YOU!!  My sister sends me photos of knitting and yarn.  THANK YOU.

Grateful today for my time today spent with these two.  One I see every day and one who lives far away.

I spent much of my day today with my mom.  She has had some tough stuff in her life, but anyone who knows her will tell you what a sweet kind good person she is.  Just thinking about our time together today is helping me to feel better.  I LOVE YOU Mom!

I am "putting on my happy face" to make my husband a snack.  (His evening snack is usually more than most of us eat for dinner.). Seriously the man can eat. Tonight I am grateful to have him here and wanting his snack!

If you are reading this, please send someone you love a text or photo or hug.  Let's share our happy today!

Wild Friday Night

If you know me well you know that I am very much a home body.   My favorite Friday evenings involve a simple meal,  a good book and pajamas.

Every 2 or 3 months it my turn to work at the shop for our monthly Friday Night Knitting.   We order food and sit and knit from 5-10 pm.   I sometimes wear my yoga pants and cozy sweater so other than location it doesn't differ much from my evenings at home.  I rarely fall asleep before 10 so this shouldn't be such a dreaded chore.  We always have a nice group of knitters gathered, a few need to purchase something or have a bit of help.

I always REALLY enjoy the evening once I am there.   Yesterday I woke up excited to know I had something fun scheduled.  A special yarn shop friend was attending this Friday. I am still hearing stories about her last Friday night visit and the fun and lively conversations she inspired.
How can you not love knitters who bring their own hand painted yarn bowl and matching wine glasses.  Thank you friends for a fun evening!!

Shop Day

Today is a "work"'day for me.  Somehow my days at home are more exhausting than my days at the shop.  House work is more fun when I have my little buddy around but it is still work!
Instead of leaving the house at 7:30 i had some extra snooze time, tea in bed ( thanks honey!) and some knitting while watching Good morning America.

I made a quick dash into my studio for some yarn to wind before I dashed out the door.  I arrived to find an eager knitter waiting patiently for me.   Knitters are such NICE people!!!  Our dear Elizabeth is off to Philly to babysit her sisters three little darlings.  The parents finally received their phone call to pick up their new son in Ethiopia.

No surprise to me Elizabeth forgot she was teaching a Learn To Knit Class this morning.  I dove right in.  In no time Clara was knitting and purling and starting a lace hat.  Lest you think I am An Amazing Knitting Instructor, i must say Clara knit many years ago and mostly forgot how to cast on.  She quickly started knitting and purling quite easily.  We had a lovely morning, knitting, chatting sipping tea.  We both have 26 year old daughters, shop for and prepare healthy organic produce and may already have an addiction to knitting cute things for babies.
I had several customers about noon so didn't eat lunch until 1:45.  Thin sliced zucchini and squash, carrots and sugar snap peas topped with a dressing of coconut milk and peanut butter.  Yum!!  Recipe calls for bell peppers and spices in the dressing that I cant eat.  Recipe from my 30 Day Vegan Class.
Time for some knitting!
Started this last week.  Tea Leaves Cardigan using ToshDK in Wilted Rose colorway ( burgandy and green). Love it, but getting bored.
Found this forgotten WIP.  Simplicity Cardigan by Mary Annarella using Tosh Sock in colorway Steam Age (gray with bits of mauve/purple and turquoise).
Missing my little buddy.  This was yesterday.  He is ready to drive.  Road Trip Time???

a Grand View Life Morning Version 2

Another busy morning.  Today we went to the grocery store.  I love going at 8 am on a Tuesday or Wednesday.  No crowds and fresh produce.  My little buddy loves food and shopping for food.  He chats and sings for me as I put food in the cart.  He makes up songs about what we buy and sings silly nonsense words and rhymes.  LOVE IT!
Today I convinced him to choose a muffin instead of a donut.  Orange cranberry.  It takes me longer to clean up the crumbs than it does for him to eat it!
He plays while I start to put away groceries.  He usually loves to help but not today.  "LaLa, I have to work. Bye,". He grabs his dirter ( empty paper towel cardboard tube) and toots around the house returner on his fire truck.
We head upstairs to make the bed and he requests music.  We listen to kid music and tidy a bit in the bedroom and studio. He asks to use the  bathroom and wants to wear his big boy pants.  I work hard to react very calm and matter-of-fact.  Last week he announced he like to poop in his pants and wear diapers.  We'll see.
We collect the wet laundry from the washer and head outside.  Another gorgeous late spring day.  Low 70's and sunny.  I spot a small bunny and Riley stalks it moving very slowly.
In the photo it is just above the center under the big pine tree.  He gets fairly close -- maybe 5 feet-- before it jumps away.
We collect wet rags and the dustbuster to clean out the car.  He is reluctant to let me use "his vacuum" then bucks himself into the front seat and says "let's go on a vacation, right now."  For a fleeting second I am tempted to grab my keys and wallet and start driving.  Beach? Vermont? Squam workshop in New Hampshire!!! Florida to see Grammy?  Reality returns and we finish the car cleaning and move into kitchen to make lunch.
Lunch outside with my two favorite guys!
John back to work.  My buddy tucked in for nap.  Ready for a quiet hour of knitting.  Work tonight 5-8.  A Very Grand Morning!!

My Sweet Buddy

One of my main purposes for blogging is to post about my daily activities and share photos with my family members who live far away.  Mostly this is for my Mom who misses her family.  As far as I know she has not been able to view this because she cant find it.  I have a hard time finding it!!!!!   I am spending time every day fiddling with blogger, reading my Blogger for Dummies, and complaining to poor John.

Keep trying Mom!!!   I just downloaded the blogger app to my i- pad and i easily loaded these 2 photos from yesterday.  I have about a dozen photos on my phone from today but cant get them to transfer to my photo stream on my i-pad.   User error for sure!!   I am working on it !!!!

Photos of sweet Riley.  Holding up something?  Dont remember!   Second photo shows him with my treasures from Grey Beards.  Enamel cups and pitcher.  Great for outside.  Unbreakable!  I will post again if i can figure out the photos!!!

A Grand View Life Morning

Here are a few scenes from a typical morning at home with Riley.   I pick him up about 7:45 am.  No groceries, Target or Lowes trip today.  Although he has breakfast at home he usually wants more foid while I eat.  Today he requests "abby and Peter's cereal" which is a granola.

We head upstairs to make the bed and gather laundry.   He jumps up and peeks through railing when I try to get a picture of him resting on a step"being a kitty like Ozzy"

We make the bed then he requests scissors "i need to practice my cutting,LaLa.  I manage to put away some laundry while he snips 2 magazine pages into little bits.  He hides them under the covers.  He chats the whole time telling me "you need to be very careful with scissors. They are very sharp.  I am just cutting my paper.  Not cutting the fabric."  Lots of tiny paper bits for John to find at bedtime!!!

He finds a pair of my glasses to wear while he helps me tidy.  Pretends to plug in vacuum ( pokes plug through holes in a laundry basket) and vacuums madly for several minutes.

Hr drops laundry down the chute and climbs up on the little rim to peer down inside.  He eagerly dashes downstairs and squeals excitedly when I open the chute door in the laundry room.  Only laundry today.  Sometimes I open the door and find blocks, stuffed animals, books. , shoes.  If it fits he shoves it down.  We put the towels in the dryer and load bed sheets into the washer.  He tells me, "you are a good helper today, LaLa. Thank you."

It is only 9:30 but he is starving and demands a snack.  He pulls the cherry wood tea box out and spends   some time considering his choices, holding tea bags out and asking, "what does this one say."  He deliberates for some time holding one in each hand.  Earl Gray or Golden Chai?  Chai is chosen and he eats some dried cherries and blueberries with his Chai.

We fill a blue bucket with warm water and wool wash and Riley helps to wash my red poncho and his red sweater.

We head outside.  I do some weeding and dig up the iris bulbs.  Apparently they need to be pulled apart and replanted every 3-5 years?  It is a beautiful day.  Sunny and low 70's.  i manage to sit for a few minutes and try to figure out how to get photos on my phone to post to my blog.  By the time I think I have the problem solved it is 11:30 and time to start lunch.

Riley watches a few minutes of Caillou,  then demands lunch.  He snitches apples from Johns salad then eats a yogurt and pretzel sticks and drinks more tea with lots of milk!   He protests nap so i set the kitchen timer for 7 minutes.  He plays in the dining room for about 3 minutes while I load the dishwasher.  He yells, "Lala,  i'm tired! Lets go up for nap."  Clean clothes and Three short stories later and he is snuggled in with lots if buddies.

Ozzy is snoozing on the back of the couch and I am settled in my chair with my knitting, audio book and tea!!

Happy Birthday to me!!

I had a lovely birthday!  Quiet day at the yarn shop.  Dinner out.  Yay!  No cooking!  A day spent with people I love and quiet evening to read and knit!!

The day before my birthday John asked me what I wanted for my birthday.  If you know John,  you know that he is NOT a shopper, gift buyer kind of guy.  I rarely receive a wrapped gift for special occasions.  He does at times come home with something that he knows I would like or will use.  Space heater for my unheated studio!!

This year I told him about my NEED for a Vitamix blender.  He asked me two questions. "Will you use it?"  Yes!!  I told him about the smoothies i would make, nut butters and flours I would create.  Then "does it come in colors?  Can
you get a red one?  I didn't know the answer for
this one.  I did some research.  Yes, a few models come in red.  The more I read about this amazing appliance the more I knew I NEEDED this.

As we headed out to dinner John asked me where he could find a Vitamix.   I happily told him that I had taken care of it.  A few minutes with my i-pad and debit card and his birthday shopping was done!!  He appreciated my efficiency and didnt even blink at the price.  He made a comment about  "importance of having quality tools."   This is something I will use in my "job" of feeding us healthy, nutritious foods.  I feel like I just bought a fun new toy to play with!!

My husband bought me an appliance for my birthday and I couln't be more excited!!!!!
Happy Birthday to me!!!
